The Shire of Merredin (the Shire) has successfully secured State Government funding to enhance community safety, with new CCTV cameras set to be installed around Pioneer Park.
Merredin is 1 of 35 local governments across Western Australia to successfully secure a share of nearly $1 million under the state’s 2026 CCTV Grant Program. This funding stems from a broader $22.5 million community safety initiative designed to provide extra resources to tackle local crime.
To ensure the new infrastructure delivers the highest possible impact, the Shire worked directly with the Merredin Police to identify hotspot areas and pinpoint exactly where increased camera coverage is needed most.
Shire CEO Craig Watts said the project is a major step forward for community safety, creating a more secure and welcoming environment for families and visitors.
"This initiative is fundamentally about protecting Merredin's shared infrastructure while giving our local police the extra tools they need to tackle local crime," Mr Watts said.
"By expanding our CCTV network, we are sending a clear message that community safety is a top priority."
Local contractor Merredin Telephone Services has been engaged to manage the installation over the coming months, ensuring the project's economic benefits stay right here in the community.
The Shire extends its thanks to the WA Government for this grant funding, which allows for the delivery of a crucial security boost for Merredin.
